چکیده
Inspired by the fascinating working process of living systems, materials that can respond to external stimuli (mechanical, chemical, optical changes in environmental conditions, etc.) are of enormous interest owing to their applications in a wide range of fields including microfluidic devices, drug delivery, tissue engineering, sensors and actuators. This review, while being non-exhaustive in literature, emphasizes the promising applications of responsive materials as building blocks of biomimetic devices, together with the description of lithographic techniques used to pattern stimuliresponsive polymers at microand nanoscale. The goal of these endeavors is to mimic biological systems by capitalizing on the prominent properties of smart materials. Herein, we briefly describe the principles of responsive behaviors on various polymer materials to external stimuli such as temperature, pH and light. We also introduce current techniques employed in fabricating structures on responsive polymers, such as photolithography, soft lithography, and atomic force microscope nanolithography. Emphasis is placed on a specific approach that generates nanostructures on a polymer that swells under local protonation. Overall, the review highlights the importance of responsive materials allowing fundamental understanding of material properties and practical applications.

Top-down and Bottom-up approaches to nanotechnology An overview in the context of developing Proton-fountain Electric-field-assisted Nanolithography (PEN):
I. ABSTRACT Nanomaterials fabrication methods can be classified according to whether their assembly followed either i) the so called bottom-up approach, where smaller components of atomic or molecular dimensions self-assemble together, according to a natural physical principle or an externally applied driving force, to give rise to larger and more organized systems; or ii) the top-down approach...

This review article aims to provide an updated and comprehensive description on the development of atomic force microscopy (AFM) nanolithography for structuring and fabrication at the nanometer scale. The many AFM nanolithographic techniques are classified into two general groups of force-assisted and bias-assisted nanolithography on the basis of their mechanistic and operational principles. Fo...
متن کاملIn situ deposition/positioning of magnetic nanoparticles with ferroelectric nanolithography
Ferroelectric nanolithography is a new approach to processing nanostructures, which can position multiple components made of various materials into predefined configurations. Local polarization in ferroelectric compounds is manipulated to control the surface electronic structure and direct attachment of molecules and particles. Here, the presence of optically excited electron-hole pairs on ferr...

Dip-pen nanolithography (DPN) has attracted increased attention for its ability to generate nanometer-scale patterns on solid surface using an “ink”-coated atomic force microscope (AFM) tip. In contrast to this conventional anchoring-molecules procedure, nanopatterns can also be created by triggering the structural response of the proper substrate. In one approach, the delivery of acidic buffer...
